Potential award recipients were required to be exemplary in digital health solutions for chronic care at both the population and individual levels. To be in contention for the 4th Annual Boston Scientific Connected Patient Challenge, companies were judged based on three criteria.

The first was practicality. Did the presenter clearly state the problem they were solving? How did their idea solve the problem and how they evaluated how well their solution worked? Can the idea be realistically implemented in today’s clinical environment at a reasonable cost?

Second, on the criteria list was efficacy. Judges looked for ideas that produced real benefits (improved patient outcomes, cost saving, reduction in care needed by the patient, better patient experience, etc.).

In addition, companies were judged based on the areas of focus. Concepts that were focused on the following disease states were most attractive: cardiovascular; digestive; cancer; neurological/chronic pain; respiratory; and/or urology and pelvic health.
