Results highlights

Sony Corp. continues to reign with the highest weighted score amongst all 145 companies whilst Nidec Corp. came in with the second highest weighted score. Both companies maintained their leaders position in their respective sectors of Electronics/Consumer and Electronics/Components. In the Electronics/Industrials (including Semiconductors) sector, Toshiba Corp took a firm lead ahead of Hitachi, with OMRON falling yet another place.

In the competitive sector of Household, Cosmetics & Personal Care, Shiseido Co. took the leading position ahead of Pola Orbis with a strong showing of 1st in both the Best CEO, CFO and IR Program categories.

As the competition for capital intensifies, corporates are finding it increasingly more difficult to get investors’ attention. This, coupled with the changing corporate access landscape and relationships between the buy-side, sell-side and corporates; corporates are finding investor engagement becoming more competitive. Nonetheless, almost 900 investors and portfolio managers and analysts from 349 voter firms participated in this survey, nominating a total of 724 companies across 25 sectors.

The survey continues to measure the IR Program of the companies, assessing the performance based on 8 key criteria of: accessibility, IR teams’ empowerment, timeliness, responsiveness, quality of meetings, quality of materials, corporate governance and SRI/ESG metrics.

“Competition for capital is increasing and so is competition for investor’s attention and mindshare. Corporates who wish to maintain a high level of investor engagement need to be strategic in their approach. All company representatives, whether they are CEO, CFO or IR professionals, need to be well prepared and impactful,” said Cara Eio, Head of Asia Pacific, Institutional Investor Research.

The 2019 All-Japan Executive Team Most Honored Companies* List

*A business that earns a top-three position in one of the four categories — Best CEO, Best CFO, Best IR Professional and Best IR Company — is deemed an Honored Company. To earn the designation of Most Honored Company, it must achieve two or more top-three appearances; rank is determined by weighted score wherein each first-place position is worth three points; second place, two; and third place, one. Most Honored Companies are listed above Honored Companies regardless of score.  When a tie exists in the weighted score, companies are ordered according to the number of ranked positions they receive in their industry sectors.
