Dubai, Jan 12, 2019 (Issuewire.com) – For residents suffering from hearing impairment, being able to hear childrens laughter or birds chirping is a priceless moment. According to WHO, around 466 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss, and 34 million out of these are children. GCC residents with untreated hearing loss could immensely benefit from early diagnosis.

Adults with untreated hearing loss experience a 30-40% faster decline in cognitive abilities. People with mild hearing loss are more likely to have a history of falling. Every additional 10 decibels of hearing loss increase the chances of falling by 1.4 times the original risk.

Most people get their eyes checked as the signs are visible when the patient is unable to see. However, people do ignore their ears, one of the most important organs that enables us to gather information and lead a stable life. When you suffer from hearing loss it doesnt just affect your hearing, but also your general health as well. Hearing loss causes you to avoid conversations or social activities that might be frustrating to enjoy, it ends up isolating patients, Giscard Bechara, Director of Starkey MEA FZCO, a Starkey Hearing Technologies owned company based in Dubai UAE.

It is estimated that by 2050 over 900 million people will have disabling hearing loss. Genetic causes, complications at birth, certain infectious diseases, chronic ear infections, the use of particular drugs, exposure to excessive noise, and aging are the contributing factors.

Today, the new technology in hearing aids allows the patients to analyze sounds faster. The noise gets filtered out. It is amazing what they can do for the patients today. Being able to hear the world and the people around them is as essential to the human experience as breathing. For that early diagnosis is the key, added Bechara.

It is always better to consult and get your ears checked by an audiologist or ENT specialist to determine the correct aid. Hearing the sounds of the phone ringing, plus taking calls straight to their hearing aid, has made the patients lives so much more convenient with the advent of new technologies. Also, being able to take part in conversations with colleagues and family members as well as really being able to hear music again has been a life changer for many, added Mohammad Al Shanteer, Audiologist.
