Dr. Monica Radford (Barbosa), MD, FACP, Integrates Medicine and Psychiatry to Provide Addiction Medicine Care

New York City, New York Jun 12, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - Dr.MonicaRadford (Barbosa), MD, FACP, a tripleboarded specialist in Internal Medicine, Psychiatry and now Addiction Medicine, Dr.Radford (Barbosa) brings over two decades of expertise and a deep commitment to improving care for Veterans and underserved/marginalized communities, as well as to educating future doctors. She serves as Medical Director of the Mental Health Addictions Team, working with Dallas Veterans and the Psychiatry students, residents, and fellows, providing care in that setting. Dr.Radford Barbosa joined the VA North Texas and UTSouthwestern faculty in 2016 as an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine with a secondary appointment in Psychiatry. Born in Augusta, Georgia, she earned an undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University (Magna Cum Laude) and completed her MD at the Medical College of Georgia. Her rigorous training includes an Intern year at Vanderbilt University, a Psychiatry residency at Emory University, and an Internal Medicine residency at Atlanta Medical Center.
Her clinical and educational roles include serving as the Addiction Medicine Subspecialty Education Coordinator and Past Chair of the Internal Medicine Clinical Competency Committee. She also serves on multiple institutional and veteran care committees. Her leadership extends beyond this through membership in the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, and Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine.
Dr.Radford Barbosa is recognized for her research in medical education, womens health, Veteran care, and underserved populations. She has contributed as coinvestigator to studies such as the VAs VOICE randomized trial and cardiovascular risk interventions in women veterans and serves as Dallas Co-Site Lead for the Womens Health Practice-Based Research Network. Her publications and editorial duties span top journals including JAMA Internal Medicine and Scientific Reports.
Outside medicine, Dr.Radford Barbosa is an avid advocate for community health and enjoys coaching youth baseball, exploring music and the outdoors, and caring for her children and pets. Her commitment to veterans, underserved populations, and learners is a natural extension of her mission to blend clinical excellence with compassionate community service.
